Greece – TUI Optimistic as Demand Extends Tourism Season into Autumn

Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis and TUI executive board member Sebastian Ebel.

Increased demand for Greece will contribute to the extension of the main tourism season into autumn, according to TUI executive board member Sebastian Ebel who met with Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis recently.

Theoharis and Ebel discussed the results of the summer period, the extension of the season with bookings already in place for November, the launch of TUI’s first cruise starting from Greece, as well as company plans to invest further in the country.

Ebel said Greece was among the top destinations of choice for its customers and praised Greek tourism professionals’ commitment to the implementation of strict safety protocols.

Looking ahead, Theoharis said Catholic Easter in mid-March would be an ideal chance to start the season for 2021. The minister also referred to Greece’s efforts to accelerate coordinated and unified EU protocols to enable travel and get the market going.

“Our goal is to ensure an excellent tourism experience on all levels, now having significant experience in effectively managing health challenges. The next period will find Greece readier to welcome foreign visitors seamlessly and safely,” said Theoharis, adding that he was optimistic about 2021.

TUI Customers Choose Greece in 2020

Meanwhile, the travel giant announced on Friday that Greece was in the leading destination of choice among its customers for 2020, increasing its market share significantly.

Driven by the demand, the group confirmed that it would be extending the season through to November with trips and cruises.

“Greece has created a framework for the safe resumption of travel and tourism. This has allowed us to continue and this year to offer our guests unique travel experiences in Greece. The country is well prepared for the resumption and operation of tourism,” said Ebel echoing Theoharis’ optimism.

I dont understand why crete was even put on there as we have very few cases…the fact that mainland is still on the safe list baffles me as the numbers there are much higher.

Does anyone know whether Crete is likely to be taken off the UK quarantine list soon ? Grateful for any help with this.
