In Memory of Hans A. Vermunt

Hans A. Vermunt, the director of “Waterman Travel & more”, last month passed away at the age of 62 in his residence on the Greek island of Corfu.

A well-known figure in the Greek tourism sector, Hans was an experienced professional with a demonstrated history of working in the leisure, travel and tourism industry.

His education took place in The Netherlands and included a Bachelor’s degree focused on Hotel Touristic Management from High Hotel Management School Maastricht.

During 1981-1984, Hans was a tour leader at the Hotelplan travel company in Greece. He later continued his career as a Front Office Manager at the Garden Hotel/Restaurant “De Kersentuin” in Amsterdam (1984-1988). As of 1990 he relocated to Corfu in Greece and was the Sales & Marketing Manager at Charitos Travel until 2000. He later held the same position at International Tours Ionian Islands-Epirus on Corfu until 2015. He then served as the Director at the Dutch-Greek incoming travel agency Waterman Travel & more until August 16, 2020.

Hans was highly skilled in leisure travel and was known for creating amongst others specialized walking tours to explore the flora and fauna on Corfu, the Ionian islands, Epirus and other parts of mainland Greece.

In the words of his family:

“Hans was the absolute creative, eco and professional Dutch Ambassador of Greece… There is much to say about HIS Waterman Travel & more philosophy: offering the best philoxenia! We are going to miss you, KALO TAXIDI!”
