Crete Town Chania Imposes Tighter Covid-19 Measures

The popular town of Chania on the island of Crete has – starting today – imposed tighter restrictions in efforts to restrict the further spread of Covid-19, Greek authorities decided.
More specifically, there is now a cap of nine people at public or private events and gatherings, masks are mandatory at all times in public spaces indoors and outside (on the road) with the exception of children under three, and only four people (six if family members) are allowed to dine per table at restaurants. Cafes, restaurants, clubs and bars must remain closed from midnight until 7am. There is a complete ban on open-air markets, festivals, concerts, parties, and fairs. And public transport and taxi drivers are required to wear a mask at all times.
Violators – business owners and participants – will be fined with 150 euros each.
The new series of measures will be in effect through to at least 6am on Tuesday 1 September.

On Monday, Greece’s National Public Health Organization (EODY) reported 170 new coronavirus infections – 36 in travelers – bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 8,819. No deaths were reported on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Greek police (ELAS) said it had conducted 61,897 inspections on Sunday, and had found a total of 8,236 violations so far in August.
Main violations had to do with businesses not following curfew, crowding and not maintaining social distancing, failure to complete the mandatory Passenger Locator Form (PLF), and not wearing a mask.

Nous sonmes arrivés à Chania le 13. En effet les gents (pas tout le monde) ont le masque aussi dans les rues.
I was in Chania last week as a tourist. None of the thousand of people there, were wearing a mask. It seems to me that the Covid 19 was a legend never arrived in Crete.
Are they out of their mind?

Does that mean you have to wear a mask while sunbathing on the beach or by the hotel’s swimming pool?!
Unfortunately less than 20% of the population in Chania follow government mandates related to fave masks and social distancing

They asked us to have an negative PCR and to follow allthe instructions but in 4 days in Chania i was thinking if if there is someone kneing that we are on. pandemic.
People everywhere,no distance, no masks.
I even dont’ t know how police in Chania looks like. I think if you ask lots of things from travelers and they pay tests and holidays, police should spend more time to see if everything is ok or not.
I’m not sure you can put a % on how many people are following the Covid-19 restrictions in Hania without properly researching it first, but I agree, as far as social distancing (maintaining 1.5 meters) is concerned, most people are not doing that at at all in Hania, even in busy indoor public places (eg. supermarkets). As for face masks, there’s better following of the rules there. Everyone is wearing a mask in public indoor areas, though some wear the masks “sloppily”. As for wearing masks outdoors since that became mandatory, in the built-up inner town areas, they’re not too bad at wearing masks on the streets (outside). The further out you go, and the wider and more open the spaces are, you’ll see fewer people wearing masks outside. I live in Hania and that’s what I’m seeing at the moment.

My wife and I plan to go to Chania on the 17th of October.
Is life there reasonably normal? Can we shop in the old vegetable market? Do we need to wear a mask everywhere?
