Over Half of Hotels on South Aegean Islands Follow Covid-19 Health Protocols

Over half of the hotels on the Greek islands in the South Aegean Region are operating under health protocols, aiming to provide Greece’s guests with safe holidays amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a new survey has found.

According to the data, 64 percent – 6 out 10 – of the hotels operating in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese have received certification from the Greek authorities.

Milos is the island where most hotels – 83 percent – are operating under health protocols against the coronavirus.

The data comes from an analysis conducted by the Institute of Tourism Research and Forecasts (ITEP) of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels on hospitality properties of the South Aegean that had adopted special health protocols by July 25.

The number of hotels that are operating under health protocols in each regional unit of the South Aegean is the following:

  • Rhodes Regional Unit – 59 percent (321 out of a total of 547 hotels),
  • Kos – 54 percent (156 out of 287 hotels),
  • Mykonos – 57 percent (112 out of 195 hotels),
  • Santorini – 67 percent (256 out of 384 hotels),
  • Tinos – 76 percent (32 out of 42 hotels),
  • Naxos – 79 percent (133 out of 168 hotels),
  • Milos – 83 percent (63 out of 76 hotels),
  • Andros – 78 percent (21 out of 27 hotels).

Meanwhile, according to the analysis, 69 percent of five-star hotels in the South Aegean have received a health protocol.The percentage is at 66 percent for four-star hotels; 62 percent for three-star; 64 percent for two-star and 57 percent for one-star hotels.

According to ITEP, some hotels in the South Aegean have obtained health protocols but may have not yet started their operation.

    Very good health protocol here in Avlaki (Bella Mare Hotel) Corfu. There are a lot of families with children which presents problems but general behaviour is good.
