Greek Airports: 75% Passenger Traffic Drop in First Half of 2020

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) recently reported a 75 percent drop in passenger numbers in Greek airports for the first six months of 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.

“As it appears in the statistics, all airports continue to record a large drop in passenger traffic due to travel restrictions imposed in Europe, Greece and the rest of the world to protect citizens and passengers from the spread of Covid-19,” HCAA said.

According to HCAA data, the total number of passengers handled by Greek airports between the January-June 2020 period was 6.2 million, compared to 24.7 during the first six months of last year.

Flights at Greece’s airports during the first six months of the year amounted to 86,888, of which 53,554 were domestic and 33,334 international, showing a decrease of 59.5 percent, compared to the corresponding period of 2019 during which 214,489 flights were recorded.
