Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis on Monday, June 29, will attend a welcoming ceremony for the first international flight to land on the island of Kos since Greece went into lockdown due to Covid-19.

The flight, chartered by travel giant TUI, will transport 170 doctors to Greece from Germany and is expected to arrive at 6pm at Kos Airport.

“The trip of German doctors to Greece has a symbolic value, since it has been offered as a gift of recognition and gratitude for their contribution to the fight against coronavirus in Germany,” the tourism ministry said in an announcement.

TUI executives will also travel with the group of doctors to Kos.

It is noted that Greece’s regional airports will be officially open to international flights as of July 1.
