The Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus re-opened to tourists this week easing further its Covid-19 restrictions and launching its user-friendly Cyprus Flight Pass platform to facilitate travel.

Larnaca and Paphos airports opened on Tuesday as the country entered the third phase of its lockdown plan and is aiming through it Cyprus Flight Pass to enable airlines and passengers in the post-covid-19 era.

The first incoming flight was scheduled to be from Athens on AEGEAN airlines at noon. It should be noted, that tourism accounts for 15 percent of the country’s GDP.

Cypriot tourism authorities encourage travelers wishing to visit Cyprus to visit the online platform before their trip, fill in the required information, submit relevant documentation and receive their travel pass.

Cyprus is implementing a country risk category program based on which passengers will either enter without documentation only providing declarations (low risk countries) or test results within at least 72 hours prior to departure in addition to a negative Covid-19 test result (high risk).

Category A countries are Malta, Greece, Bulgaria, Norway, Austria, Finland, Slovakia, Hungary, Israel, Denmark, Germany, Slovenia and Lithuania.

Category B countries are Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Croatia and Estonia. Travelers from UK and Russia are currently banned from entering the country.

Authorities underline that the lists in each category are reviewed and re-evaluated on a weekly basis based internationally available epidemiological data.

Cyprus is among the few countries in the world to have contained the spread of Covid-19 successfully reporting 970 confirmed cases, 807 recoveries and 18 deaths.

In the meantime, Cypriot authorities have said that travelers infected with Covid-19 during their holidays to country will have healthcare-related costs covered by the government.
