Covid-19: Greece Expected to Allow Travel to the Islands from May 25

Greece is expected to lift its restrictions on travel to the Greek islands as of Monday, May 25, according to Greek Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias.

Travel to the Greek islands is currently prohibited for the general public due to the measures of the Greek government, taken to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Hardalias on Tuesday said that the measure that currently restricts citizens to their home prefectures will be lifted on Monday, May 18, and travel throughout the country on the mainland will be allowed, as well as travel to the island of Crete.

Travel to the other Greek islands and between the islands is currently allowed strictly to owners and their employees of businesses that have reopened.

“Allowing travel to the other islands will be finalized in the middle of next week, however the intention is to lift restrictions as of Monday, May 25,” Hardalias said.

The protocols that will set the safety rules and standards for the operation of coastal shipping vessels in Greece after the lifting of travel restrictions are expected to be announced by the end of this week.

And without testing or quarantine, we have 12 days left before before we have to really start taking care around anyone and isolating “at risk” groups. I wonder how long it will be before the islands are closed one by one for Covid-19 infections they are unable to control due to a lack of medical facilities!!
