Greek Ιslands: Timetable for Lifting of Covid-19 Τravel Restrictions Expected Soon
The timetable for the lifting of restrictions on travel to and from the Greek islands is expected to be announced soon, according to Greek Maritime Affairs Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis. The measures had been imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Speaking recently to the media, the minister said the rules related to travel to and from the country’s islands will have a specific framework and include rules.
Plakiotakis mentioned that among the rules were for ferries to carry out routes with less passengers on board (50 percent reduced capacity). He added that frequent checks will be carried out on ferries to ensure compliance with all protection and safety measures.
“We have managed to limit the number of (coronavirus) cases on the islands to protect the health of the islanders. We have also ensured an uninterrupted connection between the islands and mainland Greece,” he said referring to the support measures taken.
In addition, Plakiotakis said that the ministry was supporting coastal shipping with 15 million euros and that a request will be made for additional support to the coastal shipping sector through European funds.
