SEGAS Moves Athens Half Marathon 2020 to September
The Athens Half Marathon 2020 event will take place in the Greek capital on Sunday, September 20, the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) and the Municipality of Athens announced on Monday.
The half marathon was originally scheduled for March 22, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The organizers anticipate that by September the world will have recovered from the COVID-19 crisis. Furthermore, the half marathon event will offer the chance to participants to prepare for “Athens Marathon. The Authentic”, the annual sports event which is scheduled for November 8.
SEGAS will send an e-mail to all registered runners with additional information on the new date.
“We do hope that this arduous and really tough situation that we are living, as the pandemic Covid-19 makes no exception across the world, will be over soon and we will meet again on 20 September in the city centre of Athens, celebrating, not spring this time, but Hope, Life and Health,” SEGAS said in its announcement.
Meanwhile, the federation has postponed all national, regional and local sporting events until May 17, following the measures announced by the Greek government against the further spread of COVID-19.
