Seasonal accommodation tourist units in Greece will remain temporarily closed from March 15 until April 30 the government decided late Saturday in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to a ministerial decision, the seasonal hotels and resorts that have already opened in Greece must temporarily close their doors by March 23 (until April 30).

Commenting on today’s government decision, the president of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), Yiannis Retsos, referred to a “necessary and proper action”.

In a statement, SETE’s president said: “Since the beginning of this unprecedented crisis, we have stressed that we need to remain calm and serious, determined and ready for brave decisions. Above all, when protecting public health, we need to be prepared to deal with the difficulties that arise daily, to have quick reflexes, to see the bigger picture, and to methodically prepare for the day after. What seems cruel today, may be salvation for tomorrow. We continue on the same path of responsibility.”

The government’s decision comes at a time when the confirmed coronavirus cases in Greece have reached 228 with the country counting three deaths.

The decision was signed by the ministers of development and investment, Adonis Georgiadis; citizen’s protection, Mihalis Crysohoidis; labor, Ioannis Vroutsis; health, Vassilis Kikilias; and interior, Panagiotis Theodorikakos.

    Dear friends,
Given the general concerns about the COVID19
we realize that some of our clients are likely to change their travel schedule hurriedly while others hesitate to book their car.
That is why we have decided to simplify the process of these changes. So we are adjusting our cancellation policy.
If clients wish to change the dates of their reservation, or cancel it they can do so without losing the deposit they have already paid provided that they will notify us of the change up to one day (24 hours) prior to arrival for obvious practical reasons.

I applaud the Government trying to control the spread of this virus. I have a small Hotel on the Island of Aegina and while I will comply with the Government I ask what they will do to stop people here still accepting bookings through AirBnB.
