Benaki Museum’s Toys on Display at Athens Airport
The Athens International Airport (AIA) is currently hosting an exhibition of toys from all over the world in its “Art & Environment” display area at the departures level.
Titled “Toys, Toys, Toys”, the exhibition is the result of AIA’s long-standing partnership with the Benaki Museum, since the artifacts on display are part of the collection of the Benaki Toy Museum.
Established in 2017, the Benaki Toy Museum includes over 20,000 toys, books, printed editions and articles connected to childhood, originating from Africa, Europe, the US and Asia, and dating from antiquity to around 1970.
“The toys of the Benaki Toy Museum collection travel airport visitors to countries, near and far away. Dolls with local costumes; handmade, industrially produced and traditional toys take us on a journey from the 19th to the late 20th century,” AIA said in an announcement.
“Apart from their recreational character, toys are part of the mosaic of history and the evolution of human civilization.”
The exhibition also features a video, produced by AbFab Productions, which offers visitors a quick look into toys from all corners of the earth.
The exhibition will run until June 28 at AIA’s departures level, Entrance 3. Admission is free.
