Naxos Looks to Attract Special Interest Travelers

The Municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades presented the islands’ special interest tourism products during the BIT 2020 tourism exhibition that took place recently in Milan, Italy.

Held for more than 30 years, Milan’s BIT is the meeting place for decision makers, industry experts and carefully selected buyers from Italy and abroad.

Naxos participated in the expo as a co-exhibitor of the South Aegean Region. During the event, the municipality’s representatives received a high number of visitors that expressed their interest to travel to the largest island of the Cyclades.

Visitors to the municipality’s stand had the chance to receive information on Naxos’ thematic tourism forms including hiking, island hopping, diving and gastronomy.

Moreover, according to the municipality, visitors showed a great interest for the island’s carnival festivities, that take place during the shoulder season in the winter.

According to the Greek National Tourism Organization’s (GNTO) office in Italy, Italian travelers today look beyond the “sea – sun – entertainment” product and seek for quality destinations with special features.

“We participate in select tourism events with the aim to inform the public, get in touch with the Italian press and establish new partnerships. Furthermore, we organize quality activities in order to promote our islands as holiday destinations even during the winter months,” Deputy Mayor for Tourism Vaggelis Katsaras said.

During BIT 2020, the municipality’s representatives also held meetings with executives from international tourism networks, tour operators, as well as influencers, fashion photographers and journalists from renknowned media outlets such as La Repubblica, Marie Claire, In Viaggio, Bell’Europa and others.
