Skiathos Palace Cup Sailboat Race to Celebrate 5th Anniversary in May

Skiathos Palace Cup, a sailboat match racing event that takes place annually on the island of Skiathos in May will celebrate its fifth anniversary with the participation of sailing teams from all over Greece and abroad.
The event will take place during May 1-3 in the waters off the island’s Koukounaries beach.
It is organized by the Skiathos Nautical Club and the Region of Thessaly, under the auspices of the Skiathos Municipality, with the support of the Hellenic Sailing Federation and the Skiathos Cultural Association.

“Koukounaries is the only natural habitat that ranked first at the Condé Nast Traveller Readers Choice Awards for its turquoise-green waters that host swans and ducks, as well as its sun-shimmering sand,” the organizers said.
According to the organizers, from the first Skiathos Palce Cup event, their vision was to develop one more unique thematic tourism product that would highlight the sport and the beauty of Skiathos.
“The results of the event’s promotion of Greece and abroad are already evident,” they said.
Since last year, Skiathos Palace Cup has been included in the calendar of the Hellenic Match Racing Tour and the SPORTSTRAVELLER76 platform that promote races abroad.

In 2019 the race was awarded the “Sail Green or GO Home Award”. Furthermore, Sailors for the Sea, an ocean conservation organization, has named the event a Clean Regatta, in the bronze category.
Aiming to promote the island as a sailing and yachting destination, Skiathos Palace Hotel is once again supporting the event as its Grand Sponsor and during the race will host athletes, journalists and visitors.
The five-star hotel is located on a hillside overlooking the Blue Flag beaches of Maratha and Koukounaries.
