Athens Voted Second Best Destination in Europe for 2020

Athens has been voted second Best European Destination for 2020 by travelers in the online competition of the European Best Destinations (EBD), a Brussels-based organization that promotes culture and tourism in Europe.
According to EBD, the eleventh edition of the competition broke all previous records with over 600,000 votes from 179 countries.
Colmar, France, ranked first and was announced Best European Destination for 2020 with 179,723 votes which is also a record.

Athens received a total of 104,639 votes and ranked second on the EBD list, from 12th last year.
“Trendier than ever, Athens is a city in constant evolution. Tradition meets modernity in museums and shops, restaurants and bars in Athens. Along with Rome, Athens is the cradle of our civilizations; it is an incredibly dynamic, lively, sparkling open-air museum,” EBD said.
Tbilisi in Georgia came third on the EBD list, followed by Vienna in Austria in fourth, and Cascais, Portugal, in fifth place.

The top 20 destinations will be promoted to millions of travelers as the most trendy destinations to visit in 2020, on the European Best Destinations network, as well as on the EBD website, which is dedicated to the promotion of tourism in Europe.
A total of 20 cities in Europe competed for the European Best Destination 2020 title including Menorca, Spain; Bydgoszcz, Poland; Sibiu, Romania; Vienna Austria; Prague, Czech Repuplic; Cascais, Portugal; and Namur, Belgium.
