Alonissos Promoted as a Must-visit Destination for Families to UK market
The island of Alonissos in the Sporades group is highlighted as a must-visit destination for families in the online edition of British travel magazine “Family Traveller”.
The feature is part of a promotional campaign launched by the Municipality of Alonissos and the Greek National Tourism Organization’s (GNTO) office in the UK, with the aim to promote the island’s thematic tourism products.
“Family Traveller” describes Alonissos as the “least touristy [of the Sporades islands]… and most appreciated by active families, young nature lovers, mini-marine biologists and wannabe archaeologists.”
Alonissos is set in the largest marine park in Greece. “The waters are utterly pristine – great for snorkelling and spotting everything from seals to dolphins,” the article said.
“Islet-hopping is another local speciality and if kids like boats it’s paradise for day-cruising.”
The feature also includes information on the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros.
Meanwhile, the GNTO presented Alonissos’ thematic forms of tourism to British travel professionals during an event which was recently held in London.
The organization presented the 5th-century shipwreck of Peristera, located east of Alonissos, as well as Greece’s plans to open the first underwater museum in the area, in the summer of 2020.
“Alonissos has entered a new era… as its diving tourism product is promoted to key markets including the UK,” the island’s Mayor Petros Vafinis said.
