Greece Among 5 Most Popular European Destinations for Chinese Travelers, Says Report
Greece is among the top five most popular tourism destinations of Chinese travelers for 2019, according to a report on the travel trends of Chinese outbound tourists to Europe presented recently by the European Tourism Commission (ETC) and Trip.com (former Ctrip).
According to an announcement by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the ETC and Trip.com report revealed that Italy, France, the UK, Germany, Spain and Greece are among the top choices of the post-90s generation in China.
“Due to its booming economy, China has become the second largest source market for European tourism. Demand for European travel remains strong while prospects are promising,” said Ludivine Destrée, Chair of ETC’s China Chapter.
More into the report, data showed that over 50 percent of Chinese travelers have special requirements when searching for gastronomy and accommodation options. Regarding accommodation in Greece, most of the online searches of the Chinese focus on hotels on Santorini that overlook the caldera.
In addition, the report showed that the top 10 thematic travel experiences searched online by the Chinese include travel photography; history and culture; unexplored nature; fashion and art; fairytale and mythology tours; hiking; educational tourism; northern lights; cruise; and the combination of ski and spa.
The report also found that the number of solo Chinese travelers is on the rise.
