Argo Travel Promotes the Perfect Destinations for ‘Weddings in Greece’

Argo Travel Group, a leading Greek tourism company, is informing the market on its latest thematic product, which looks to promote wedding tourism in Greece.

Following on its announcement last year, the company this September launched its ‘Weddings in Greece’ website that includes many suggestions for couples to have their weddings in Greece.

“Our suggestions of course are not limited to weddings on Santorini… We are promoting over 20 destinations in Greece that can host the wedding of couples from Asia, from America and from all over the world… And we are still developing the product,” Argo Travel’s Group Director of Sales & Marketing, Stratis Voursoukis, told GTP Headlines on the sidelines of the recent World Travel Market (WTM) trade show in London.

According to Voursoukis, following Santorini, the destinations of Athens, Skiathos and Skopelos are proving quite popular as destinations in Greece for weddings and honeymoons.

“Of course, it depends on the market. For example, Zakynthos is singled out by Asians, while the Russian and European markets mainly opt for Crete and Rhodes,” he added.

Regarding the nationalities of couples seeking to have their wedding or honeymoon in Greece, Voursoukis said that the specific form of tourism is very popular among Latin Americans – Brazilians mainly; and Asians from China, Korea and Thailand.

At WTM London 2019, Argo Travel presented its wedding tourism product and received positive feedback.

“This is our first approach with this product in the UK market but I think that in time it will attract a following,” Voursoukis said, adding that in general, UK travelers are opting more for free independent travel (FIT).

“This year we are seeing UK travelers seeking experiences, opting for experiential tourism and taking a step back from big tour operators,” he said.

The project, based on a strategic partnership launched with Olga Karaververis of Karaververis Weddings, a renowned wedding planner in Greece.

“The product is based on Karaververis’ experience in the Greek wedding market and our connections in the global travel and tourism sector,” Voursoukis said, adding that the company has already partnered with many wedding planners and facilitators around the world.

“They support us and our goal is to participate in specialized exhibitions of this kind in 2020,” he said.

Along with its ‘Weddings in Greece’ product, Argo Travel also debuted ‘Traces of Greece’, a product offering cultural and religious experiences in Greece.

‘Traces of Greece’ is a collaboration of Argo Travel with the University of Athens, one of Greece’s most prestigious universities and offers certified short courses especially designed for the international academic community (students, researchers and faculty members), and thematic experiential tourism programs for demanding travelers who seek for cultural and religious experiences.

“This product offers 100% experiential tourism for the demanding traveler… It’s all about experience in Greece,” Voursoukis said.

Argo Travel Group was founded in Athens in 1952. As a DMC it offers business travel and MICE services throughout Greece to its corporate customers – PCO’s, incentive houses, international MICE organizers, corporations, banks etc. It currently operates offices in Athens and branches in Thessaloniki, Santorini, Geneva and Shanghai.
