Main points of Greece’s new tourism strategy for 2020 will be presented to the world during the World Travel Market (WTM) London trade show, set to open its doors on Monday, November 4, at ExCel.

In its 40th year, WTM is an annual business to business exhibition for travel industry professionals and brings together the largest global industry gathering of destinations, tour operators, hotels, airlines, technology and online travel services under one roof.

Greece is attending the 40th WTM London having maintained a strong tourism performance in 2019 and with 2020 expected to be as just as positive.

According to GNTO UK & Ireland Office Director Emy Anagnostopoulou, Greece is capitalizing on its 2019 tourism strategy, as airline flights recorded an increase of 3.3 percent during the first nine months of 2019 (data by CAA, Fraport, AIA), and tourism revenue rose by 16.1 percent during January-August (Bank of Greece data), compared to the same periods last year.

“The corresponding figures for the UK market are at 5.2 percent and 54.7 percent respectively, which is a huge success considering that this is the Brexit year,” Anagnostopoulou told GTP Headlines.

Visit Greece stand

The Visit Greece (Greek National Tourism Organization-GNTO) stand — EU1100 – will host some 70 Greek exhibitors, including representatives of hotels, regions and travel companies from across the country and its islands.

The 2019 trade event will kick off for Greece with the inauguration of the GNTO’s stand on Monday morning by Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis.
