Piraeus Hosts Germany’s Rose of Charity Sailing Cup 2019 Event
The Greek city of Piraeus was the host destination for the Rose of Charity Sailing Cup 2019, a German sailing regatta held with the participation of actors and artists from Germany, aiming to fight sea pollution and raise awareness on environmental issues.
Held since 2013, the Rose of Charity Sailing Cup is an annual sports and lifestyle event that aims to serve as platform for messages of social engagement and commitment to the environment.
The 2019 race took place in the Marina Zeas in Piraeus earlier this month and included stops to the islands of the Saronic Gulf namely Egina, Poros and Hydra, as well as to the port of Epidaurus in the Peloponnese.
The race was covered by ARD, a joint organization of Germany’s regional public-service broadcasters, offering a significant opportunity to promote the Saronic islands and Greece’s tourism offerings to a wide audience abroad.
GNTO applauds the event for selecting Greece
Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) President Angela Gerekou attended the closing ceremony of the Rose of Charity Sailing Cup 2019 and applauded the event’s cause.
During her speech, she thanked the organizers for selecting Greece as the event’s host country and referred to the GNTO’s efforts to support marine tourism, a tourism form included among the priorities of the Tourism Ministry to develop further.
“The GNTO actively supports events that aim to promote marine tourism,” she said.
According to the Rose of Charity Sailing Cup website, the event shows the commitment of German film and television actors towards the environment. Created by actors and the team of ARD BRISANT 2013, the Rose of Charity is an event for sailors and sailboats of all classes. In total, 25 yachts are admitted to the Rose of Charity Sailing Cup.
Greek companies AEGEAN and ANEK Lines were among the event’s partners.
