Greek Airports Welcome 54.5 Million Passengers in Jan-Sept 2019

A total of 54.5 million passengers went through Greek airports from January to September marking a 4.8 percent increase in the nine-month period compared to a 4.1 rise in 2018, said the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) this week.

According to HCAA data, 54,478,091 passengers flew into Greece on 444,054 flights (domestic: 169,711 and international: 274,343), compared to 51,977,911 on 426,425 flights in 2018. The number of total flights rose by 4.1 percent year-on-year.

September data reveals a 4.3 percent increase in total passenger numbers to 8.6 million, stronger by 4.1 percent, on 66,335 flights, up by 3 percent, against the same month in 2018.

International arrivals increased by 4.1 percent to 3,225,236, compared to 3,097,008 in 2018.

The busiest Greek airports in September were those of Athens, HeraklionRhodesThessaloniki and Corfu. Athens International Airport (AIA) handled 2,683,701 passengers in total.

For the nine-month period to September 2019, Ioannina airport marked the largest increase, up by 28.9 percent to 107,894 travelers against 83,691 in the same period in 2018.

The airports of Naxos and Kalamata follow recording a 21.5 percent and a 21 percent increase, respectively.
