Cultural activities and events in Greece will play a big part in the country’s promotion as a tourism destination, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) has announced.

The announcement followed a recent meeting held in Athens between GNTO President Angela Gerekou and the artistic director of the National Theatre of Greece, Dimitris Lignadis.

According to the GNTO, Gerekou and Lignadis had a productive discussion and established the foundations of a multilevel forthcoming cooperation, having the year 2020 as starting point.

“At the forefront there will be a multidimensional artistic project of the National Theatre on the occasion of the 2,500 years anniversary of the Battle of Salamis, a milestone historical event of global significance,” the GNTO said.

During the meeting, both sides agreed that culture and history, tourism and theatre, experiential learning and entertainment can come together in an important synergy between the GNTO and the National Theatre to highlight the image of Greece throughout the world.
