Creta Maris: Sustainability and Local Community High on Priority List
The Creta Maris Beach Resort on Crete throughout the year organizes a number of activities and events with the participation of its guests and employees, with the aim to promote sustainable tourism and the island’s gastronomy.
Wine and olive oil tasting, visits to the Cretan vineyard and olive harvest are some of the activities that highlight Crete’s culinary culture, traditions and customs.
The events are carried out within the context of Creta Maris’ participation in the “TUI Care Foundation | FUTOURIS Project |Crete, First steps towards a sustainable food destination, 2017-2019” project.
A member of the Metaxa Hospitality Group, Creta Maris designs and implements a number of actions aiming to develop the infrastructure for a sustainable destination. As underlined in an announcement, the hotel looks to offer services that extend beyond the ‘sea & sun’ [model] and focus on sustainable development and the support of local communities.
Wine and olive tasting events – activities that are at the core of Creta Maris Beach Resort’s Sustainability Program – are organized on a monthly basis throughout the tourism season at the resort’s premises.
They highlight Crete’s long tradition in viticulture, winemaking and olive oil production, while offering guests the opportunity to get familiar with the special characteristics of Cretan olive oil and wine, taste Cretan delicacies and learn more on the ‘TUI Care Foundation | Futouris Project’.
This year, the Creta Maris Beach Resort has also held its Cretan Vineyard Care activity and the olive harvest.
Furthermore, it will soon hold the Opsigias, which is the production of raisins using traditional methods; as well as the Xelikisma, which is the traditional grapes’ cleaning and raisins’ finish.
