Greece’s Historic Mansions Open Doors for ‘European Private Heritage Week’
Historic mansions and houses across Greece will once again open their doors to the public on the occasion of the “European Private Heritage Week”, an initiative of the European Historic Houses Association (EHHA).
Running between May 16-19, the events in Greece will be organized by the Athens-based Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage (ELLET) in cooperation with EHHA.
“A total of 25 mansions in Athens, Kastoria, Corfu, Santorini and Chios, will open their doors to offer visitors the opportunity to appreciate their cultural value and architectural wealth,” ELLET said in an announcement.
According to ELLET, the aim of the initiative is to raise awareness on the architectural legacy of small-scale architectural monuments, which is as important as the value of emblematic archaeological and byzantine monuments.
Furthermore, ELLET wishes to inform the public on the challenges that the owners of historic houses face today for the buildings’ rescue and conservation.
The event in Greece is made possible with the sponsorship of Alexandra Mamilega – Prokopiou, who represents Greece at the EHHA.
