Athens to Host 44th ‘Japan Week’ Event in November
Athens has been selected by the International Friendship Foundation (IFF) as the host destination of the 44th Japan Week 2019 event.
Scheduled to take place from November 23-28, the event will gather more than 1,200 Japanese artists to Athens, who will hold music and dancing performances, craft workshops and martial arts demonstrations in the city’s squares, schools and Friendship Clubs, and at the Megaron-Athens Concert Hall.
The event is co-organized by the City of Athens, the Embassy of Japan in Athens, the Greek Japanese Friendship Association and the Hellenic Association of Travel & Tourist Agencies (HATTA).
The Japan Week coincides with the 120th anniversary of Greece’s and Japan’s diplomatic relations. It was on June 1, 1899 when then Greek minister of foreign affairs, Athos Romanos, and the minister of Japan, Nobuaki Makino, signed the Treaty of Amity, Commerce and Navigation between Japan and Greece.
The Japan Week is organized in a different country every year, with the aim to promote Japanese culture and strengthen the ties between people.
