Kalamata Steps Up Tourism Promotion Strategy
Aiming to boost incoming tourism all year round as well as stimulate city break tourism, the Kalamata Municipality recently announced that it would further enhance its promotional activities in 2019.
The municipal authority decided among other actions to create promo material such as leaflets, banners, posters and flyers, to be distributed at city hall, the airport, the cruise terminal and on the beach.
The city council also approved a budget for the digital promotion of the coastal city via an online event calendar in collaboration with local businesses and stakeholders to include a wide range of events such as music, theater, art exhibitions, festivals, cultural, religious and sporting events.
In addition, the municipality is also planning to launch within the year a free phone app titled “Welcome to Kalamata” which will provide users with real-time news about events, happenings, sites of interest, and offers, and will also include a map featuring important landmarks, museums, places of worship, galleries, parking spaces and bicycle lanes. At the same time, it plans to set up info points across town to provide travelers with information on the spot.
The city authority will also up its presence on social media networks and through online media presentations as well as participate in international tourism and travel shows.
In the meantime, aiming to expand to new markets, Kalamata authorities are looking into ways to attract more special interest travelers through the creation of alternative forms of tourism as well as to meet the demands of niche markets such as people with disabilities within its “accessible tourism for all” program, senior citizens, and students.
It should be noted that the world-famed 5-star Costa Navarino Resort is near Kalamata in Messinia while the city’s airport is next in line for upgrade works.
