Central Macedonia Seeks to Diversify Tourism Product
Central Macedonia Region tourism stakeholders are examining ways to diversify the tourism product and extend the season through synergies, innovation, and new technologies with the goal to ensure the region’s competitive edge.
In this direction, regional authorities have set aside 500,000 euros for the promotion of Central Macedonia as a “singular year-round tourist destination” which can meet the demands of existing and as well as of new markets.
Emphasis will be given to enhancing city and alternative forms of tourism, and to promoting thematic and special interest tourism products.
Actions planned in this direction include organizing targeted hospitality programs for journalists, tourism professionals and market influencers; launching marketing and promotional support programs in cooperation with airlines for the creation of new routes etc; promoting Central Macedonia destinations to targeted international markets; publishing a new updated tourist guide of the region; planning local happenings and events abroad for the promotion of Central Macedonia tourism offerings and products, as well as the launch of a far-reaching campaign.
The Central Macedonia Region includes a number of popular Greek tourist destinations, including Halkidiki, Pella – the birthplace of Alexander the Great, Thessaloniki, and the autonomous monastic community on the Mount Athos peninsula.
