A leading global travel data provider, OAG every year creates a ranking for the best on-time performance (OTP) of the world’s largest airlines and airports. Airlines are evaluated based on their size category and region, while airports are divided into five size categories.
AEGEAN has been included on the list of the 10 most punctual European airlines, ranking 8th with on-time performance (OTP) of 78.32 percent.
Furthermore, Latin American airline Copa Airlines achieved the top spot in the “All Airlines” category with on-time performance of 89.79 percent. AirBaltic came second with 89.17 percent and Hong Kong Airlines third with 88.11 percent.
Meanwhile, Athens International Airport ranked 14th on OAG’s Top 20 list of large airports with 10-20 million departing seats per annum, with OTP reaching 80.07 percent.
Osaka holds the top spot in the rankings for large airports with 88.22 percent. Honolulu came second with 87.67 percent and Brasilia third with 86.08 percent.
The OAG Punctuality League 2019 report is based on over 57 million flight records using full year data from January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2018.
According to the report, in 2018, regional disruptions in air traffic control (ATC) created a tough environment for Europe’s airlines and airports.
“2018 was a tough year for Europe’s aviation market. The region’s airlines and airports faced a perfect storm of industrial action, supplier issues and inclement weather – all of which combined to have a big impact on OTP,” said John Grant, senior analyst with OAG, also adding that on-time performance is one of the single most important metrics in the travel industry.
