The islands of Mykonos and Santorini, two of Greece’s most popular destinations, in 2019 will host the annual sales meeting of Collete Tours, one of the largest and oldest tour operators in the United States.

The announcement was made during Collette Tours’ 2018 sales meeting in Egypt, by the South Aegean Vice Governor for Tourism, Culture and Sports Marietta Papavasiliou, who participated in the event via video call.

The 2019 sales meeting is expected to attract more than 200 sales executives of Collette Tours. “Mykonos and Santorini are two strong international tourism brands, included among the most popular destinations for US travelers. The islands will fully respond to the challenge and the Region of South Aegean is committed to ensure the best results,” Papavasiliou said.

The South Aegean Region and Collette Tours launched their partnership in early October to promote the Greek islands to the US market through the tour operator’s communication channels (brochures, social media posts, blog posts and newsletters).

Meanwhile, the South Aegean Region also recently announced its collaboration with the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA), which selected the island of Rhodes as the host destination of the ASTA International Showcase event. Scheduled to take place in spring 2019, ASTA International Showcase is expected to attract 400 US tour operators to Rhodes.

“The strategic goal of the South Aegean Region is to open new tourism markets… The US market in particular is a challenge for us as it offers many and significant opportunities. The number of US travelers to Greece is constantly increasing and the prospects are exceptional,” Papavasiliou added.
