The four-star Golden Age Hotel in Athens on Wednesday celebrated its recent renovation with a grand opening party attended by business partners and representatives of the Greek tourism scene.

Counting 40 years in Greek hospitality, in 2017 the hotel embarked on a two-phase renovation plan and now presents a new “urban chic” look.

“Welcome to the new age of the Golden Age,” the hotel’s Director of Sales, Vicky Liakou, told GTP Headlines, during the event.

“The hotel’s renovation began in December 2017 and we completed the revamp of all the rooms in March 2018… The total project, together with the renovation of the hotel’s common areas and four conference halls, wrapped up in August 2018,” Liakou said, underlining that the fully revamped rooms and suites are aimed to satisfy the needs of even the most demanding travelers.

The Golden Age Hotel offers five room types to cater the needs of each traveler: Urban Chic Rooms; Superior Rooms; Junior Suites; Executive Suites and Family Suites. Each room has new oak flooring, for better aesthetics and hygiene, while the main colors, gray and beige, blend in successfully with carefully selected furniture.

Taking under high consideration the relaxation of its guests, the hotel’s management chose to install double-glazed windows to provide protection from external noise. All room entrance doors are 30 minute fire resisting, while special care was also given to the sound insulation between the rooms.

All rooms include Hypnos beds, mattresses and pillows; Coco-Mat linen made of cotton; Zealot bathroom amenities; guaranteed cleanliness and clothing hygiene following EN ISO 9001:2008 and RAL GZ-992/1 certification; and free wifi. USB slots have been installed right next to the beds for the connection of any device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.).

The renovation project also included the full refurbishment of the ala carte Golden Moments restaurant; the breakfast room; the Golden Bar; the gym; and the spa room, manned by the hotel’s partner company aegeo.

While the hotel is known for welcoming a mainly business clientele, it is also among the selections of individual leisure travelers, due to its location in one of the safest and accessible areas of Athens.

“Most of our reservations are from Greek and international business and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) accounts, but we also have leisure travelers from Europe and the United States, both groups and individual bookings,” Liakou said, adding that the hotel’s location offers very easy access to the city’s center – Syntagma Square – and is among the selections of all travelers.

Focus on business, conference tourism

“But, through this renovation, we are making a targeted attempt to attract event more corporate events and have emphasized a little more on developing our MICE offering,” Liakou said, underlining that competition is high in the Athens hospitality sector, especially among 4- and 5-star hotels regarding conference tourism.

The Golden Age Hotel is known for hosting medical and pharmaceutical conferences, company seminars, corporate meetings, events and presentations. Its largest hall has a total maximum capacity to 200 people, depending on the setting.

“Our MICE offering existed before but has been boosted with the renovation… The four conference rooms have been completely revamped and we made a significant investment to cover the needs of business events and meetings with the hi tech audiovisual equipment we now offer,” she said.

Despite the competition in the Athens hospitality sector, Liakou is very optimistic.

“We feel strong because the hotel has 40 years of experience in Greek hospitality and offers personalized service… The Golden Age has a very good team – management, executives and staff – that have many years of experience in the industry… And I believe that due to this experience, the hotel makes a difference and stands out, something that is obvious with our very good ratings and reviews,” she added.

“Tourism is all about the people that work in the industry and our recent renovation comes to add to the fact that the Golden Age team will always maintain its high level of services to its customers,” Liakou said.
