Musicians from Greece and China recently were united for culture in Athens, Nafplio, Epidaurus and Crete, where they took part in a number of events as part of the “2018 Meet Greece Music Journey” initiative.
Now in its fourth year, the “Meet Greece Music Journey”, which kicked off in late September, is a project run by Meet Culture, an organization focusing on the cultural exchange between Greece and China.
The “2018 Meet Greece Music Journey” sees a cultural group consisting of Chinese musician and cultural ambassador of China and Greece, Chang Jing; Chinese flute master, Zhang Di; and travel blogger and producer Miao Bin, explore Greece through a unique cultural journey.
“We aim to deepen the mutual understanding between Greece and China through travel, art and music,” Miao Bin, who is also Meet Culture co-founder, said. “Greece still remains mysterious for most of the Chinese people, who should learn more about the ancient civilization in the West.”
Already, the two Chinese musicians have participated in a workshop on ancient Greek instruments with Greek music instrument maker Nikolaos Bras; held a concert with Cretan lyre master Ross Daly in Heraklion, Crete; and held the “When Chinese Music Meets Greek Theater” cultural event in Nafplio, in collaboration with the Department of Theater Studies of the Peloponnese University.
Moreover, since the launch of the “2018 Meet Greece Music Journey”, the two musicians had the opportunity to tour Athens’ City Hall, visit the ancient city of Knossos on Crete and learn more about the Minoan civilization and also get to know Mycenae and the theater of Epidaurus.
According to the organizers, the next event of the “2018 Meet Greece Music Journey” program will see the the two musicians participating in a workshop on ancient Greek music, alongside ancient Greek lyre soloist Aliki Markantonadou, singer Athena Chioti and flute musician Pan Kaperneka.
