TUI Group’s Michalis Mavropoulos Steps Down
Michalis Mavropoulos has stepped down from his position as regional director for the East Mediterranean of TUI Destination Services and resigned from TUI Group, citing personal reasons.
“I am proud of the course of TUI in Greece and the East Mediterranean in recent years,” Mavropoulos said in an announcement on Friday.
Thanking his colleagues, TUI’s leadership and tourism industry partners, Mavropoulos underlined that “together we managed to place Greece even higher in the ranking of the most attractive destinations in the world”.
An executive of TUI since 2012, Mavropoulos initially managed to revive TUI Hellas and then successfully run the East Mediterranean region for TUI Destination Experiences, the group’s travel experience organization.
“I close this chapter, keeping my relationship with TUI in a climate of cooperation,” he said.
On his part, TUI Destination Experiences Managing Director David Schelp expressed his sorrow regarding Mavropoulos’ decision to leave TUI.
“Michalis contributed effectively to our business activity in Greece and at the same time he was a strong ambassador for Greek tourism in TUI,” Schelp said.
“I would like to thank him very much for his dedication and contribution to our company in recent years and wish him the best for his professional and personal future.”
Mavropoulos will be succeeded by Ian Chapman, also a member of the Board of Directors of TUI Destination Experiences and regional director of the West Mediterranean region.
A member of TUI’s team for over 25 years in various countries around the world, Chapman is well acquainted with the region of the East Mediterranean as he has resided and worked in Greece for a long period of time.
