Astypalea: A Greek Wellness Destination Waiting to be Discovered

Astypalea island, Greece

In efforts to establish Astypalea as a wellness destination in Greece, local authorities are planning to host a number of events dedicated to health and wellbeing, starting on September 29 until October 2.

The events will include a cycling festival, gastronomy sessions and yoga classes, and will be held within the framework of a tourism campaign, which was launched in May to promote the small island’s positive energy.

More specifically, starting on September 29, the island will host the Astypalea Cycling Festival 2018, a three-day event which will provide participants with the opportunity to discover the hidden beauties of the destination.  Furthermore, the festival aims to promote alternative forms of tourism on the island, attract special interest travel groups and extend the season. It is organized by the Municipality of Astypalea in collaboration with GrCyclying and The Story Tailors with the support of the South Aegean Region.

In addition, Astypalea will host a gastronomy event with Greek chef Yiannis Apostolakis; yoga classes with expert Ioannis Koulanis, and a traditional feast with singer Leta Korre.

“Astypalea, a destination with positive energy, invites all to learn more on wellness in an enjoyable, ecological, healthy way,” Deputy Mayor for Tourism Maria Kambouri said.

Also known as “Butterfly of the Aegean” due to its shape, Astypalea is part of the Dodecanese complex, located in the southeastern Aegean. According to an announcement, this year Astypalea attracted travelers from Greece and abroad due to its wealth of tourism experiences, which are combined with the island’s natural beauty and authentic hospitality.
