Western Greece to Blend Technology in New Tourism Promotion Plan
The Region of Western Greece has announced the launch of a new tourism promotion plan for the period of 2019-2021, which will focus on the use of new technologies and virtual reality applications.
The plan – budgeted at 1 million euros – will include the use of mobile phone apps; 3D virtual reality tours to landmark sites and buildings of the area, and the creation of a central portal for the submission of documents and multimedia files in digital form.
Furthermore, the plan foresees the region’s participation in international tourism exhibitions and the use of marketing tools for the creation of a special tourism identity that will promote the area’s competitive advantages.
“We need to undertake new initiatives that will highlight the advantages of our region and promote it as an attractive destination, as well as pave the way for its sustainable development that will also benefit the local community,” Western Greece Governor Apostolos Katsifaras said.
After the plan is approved by the regional council, the Region of Western Greece will submit a request to receive funding by the National Strategic Reference Framework (ESPA) for its promotional activities.
