3rd Tinos Challenge Running Event to Kick Off in December

Tinos, on December 1 and 2, will host the 3rd Tinos Challenge, a sports tourism running event that aims to highlight the cultural heritage and unique landscape of the Cycladic island.

The running event on Tinos is the sixth and last race of the Cyclades Trail Cup 2018, a championship which includes events on several islands throughout the year such as the Kimolos Trail, the Folegandros Sunset Trail and the Andros Trail Race.

The 3rd Tinos Challenge will host athletes from Greece and other countries, who will compete in three races, passing through the island’s stone and marble trails, as well as 15 traditional villages. The challenge for the runners is to compete and finish two races in two days.

The Vertical Race

The Vertical Race of the Tinos Challenge will start on Saturday, December 1, at 4 pm from the area of Loutra. Participants will run a 1.5-km distance with 325 meters of vertical descent to reach the peak of Mount Eksomvourgo.

The race will be followed by a pasta party at the Monastery of Iera Kardia.

The 20-km Race

On Sunday, December 2, starting from the Monastery of Iera Kardia, participants will run 20 km through Tinos’ mainland and unique traditional villages including Koumarou, Volaks, Agapi Krokos, Komi and Ksinaras.

The first three men and first three women who finish both races (vertical and 20km) will be announced as the Tinos Challenge winners.

Mini Challenge

The Mini Challenge additional event includes the Vertical Race and a 7 km race. The first three men and the first three women who finish the two races will also be announced winners of the event.

Furthermore, the first male and female athlete from Tinos as well as the oldest and youngest athlete will be announced winners of the 3rd Tinos Challenge.

Online registration is open until November 22. Interested athletes will also have the chance to register on December 1 on Tinos. For more information press here.

Participating athletes are entitled to reduced rates on ferry tickets, accommodation and car or motorcycle rental.
