The northern island of Samothraki, during September 7-8, will host the Samothraki Open Forum, which will focus on sustainable development, optimum business practices and cultural heritage.
Titled “Sustainability, Growth and Tourism” the forum will provide professionals from the fields of tourism, culture and the agrifood sector with the opportunity to gain insight on the region’s geopolitics and the benefits that arise from the island’s position on the Silk Road route.
During the forum’s first day, local authorities and academics will discuss on the “one-belt-one-road” development strategy, which is proposed by the Chinese government and focuses on connectivity and cooperation between Eurasian countries.
On the occasion of the designation of 2018 as the Year of Cultural Heritage, the forum’s second day will focus on the destination of Samothraki and ways of promoting sustainable development and the island’s cultural heritage.
Among the issues to be discussed will be the need for a strategy which will promote an holistic tourism experience on the island with active leisure and agrotourism activities; the use of new technologies and the funding of enterprises active in lifelong education.
Moreover, a panel of experts comprised of entrepreneurs and senior business executives will discuss the creation of an integral strategy and brand for Samothraki.
“Development, cooperation, respect for nature and humans’ is the message that Samothraki wishes to pass on for the Year of Cultural Heritage. It is a mythical place, a heaven on earth with global radiation… My vision is for the island to be at the forefront of sustainable development in Greece, ” said Panagiotis Kambouroglou, founder and managing partner of Iasion Ltd, the forum’s organizer.
The Samothraki Open Forum will be held at the Nicholas Fardis Cultural Center in the Chora of Samothraki, and the organizer’s aim is to become an annual international event.
