Crete recently welcomed the Legacy Gastro Suites, a brand new five-star hotel that offers a unique concept as it is specially designed to celebrate authentic Cretan hospitality, combining the island’s heritage and culture with Greek gastronomy.

Located in one of the most privileged spots in Heraklion, the new hotel is based in an entirely refurbished historic building in the center of the city that retains the features of the urban homes of the 50s.

According to the hotel’s management, the suites are inspired by three characters of Crete’s cultural past. “The pillar of inspiration behind the interior design of our suites, comes from the artistic heritage of the writer Nikos Kazantzakis, the poet Vincezos Kornaros, and the painter, sculptor and architect Domenikos Theotokopoulos (El Greco). Each space stands out through featured characteristics that have marked the life and work of these three great Cretan personalities.”

Each of the 12 boutique suites are decorated with original pieces of furniture, unique upholstery and impressive chandeliers and can host up to two guests.

Gastro concept: All about offering authentic Greek culinary experiences

A big part of the new hotel’s concept is to cater to visitors looking for authentic Greek gastronomy experiences.

The Legacy Gastro Suites allows guests to explore its gastronomy concept from the moment they check in as all suites host an all-Greek food station, complete with Greek delicacies, wines and spirits. The hotel encourages private in-room dining experiences through an a-la-carte menu, from breakfast to gourmet dinners.

The food experience continues at the hotel’s restaurant, which features regional tastes and seasonal ingredients, following timeless local recipes that ensure a combination of health and taste, the core of Cretan diet.

Traditional dishes are carefully crafted by experts, while specially selected fresh ingredients are used respecting the authenticity of regional recipes and traditions that have shaped throughout the years the gastronomic character of the island.

Moreover, a gastro boutique shelf on the premises allows visitors and locals to purchase selected Greek products to take home.

The Legacy Gastro Suites are a member of Karatarakis Hotels & Restaurants SA, a group that owns, leases and manages hotels, residencies, restaurants, and conference facilities. Active in the hospitality industry since 1976, the group provides complete accommodation, gastronomy, leisure and entertainment services.
