Greek Airports See 10.5% Passenger Traffic Growth in First Half of 2018

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) has reported a 10.5 percent rise in passenger numbers in Greek airports for the first six months of 2018, compared to the same period in 2017. The HCAA also recorded a 7.8 percent increase in flight movements to 211.591 over the same period compared to 2017 figures.

The data for the first half of 2018 shows that Greece’s passenger traffic is booming with a significant increase in international arrivals at all airports.

According to HCAA data, the total number of passengers handled by Greek airports between the January-June 2018 period was 24,458,175, compared to 22.127.315 during the first six months of last year.

The airports of that recorded the highest passenger traffic percentage increase in the January-June period were Kavala (84.5 percent rise), Milos (76.4 percent rise) and Sitia on Crete (65.9 percent rise).

Arrivals at Greek airports in June alone, increased by 10.7 percent compared to the same month in 2017, reaching 8.191.956 passengers. International arrivals in June were up by 10.8 percent to 3,377,825, compared with the same month last year.

The total number of flights in June rose by 11 percent to 66,249 compared to 59,706 in June 2017, with the airports of Athens, Heraklion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Corfu being among the busiest.
