Greece’s investment opportunities are at the center of attention in New York, this week during the Greek Investment Roadshow running through to June 22.
Addressing the event, organized each year by the Athens Stock Exchange (ATHEX) and the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), in cooperation with Enterprise Greece, Alternate Economy Minister Alexis Charitsis highlighted its importance at such a crucial moment in the country’s history, as it prepares to exit its onerous bailout programs and return to the markets.
Charitsis pointed to the investment opportunities available in a wide range of sectors, underlining Greece’s key position in the wider Balkan region and Eastern Mediterranean.
This year’s roadshow includes the 7th Greek Investment Forum and one-on-one meetings between listed companies and US institutional investors and funds in New York, business meetings and presentations in Washington, as well as an investment briefing session and networking meetings in Chicago.
“Investors realize that Greece is becoming once again a popular investment destination,” said Charitsis, adding that after eight years of crisis, Greece exits in August, and “we are here today to discuss the framework of cooperation for next day”.
Charitsis said that in view of Greece’s return to the markets, it was the best time to meet with investors and people interested in Greece, to discuss the investment opportunities available and ways to work together to boost bilateral economic and trade relations between Greece and the US.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt, reiterated his country’s commitment to Greece’s economic recovery, adding that the challenge has been great for the Greek people but expressing his optimism that the Greek government will continue to consistently implement the reforms necessary that will pave the way for investments which will cement Greece’s healthy economic standing.
On Thursday, Charitsis is scheduled to meet with the US Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, in Washington, to discuss the US participation in the upcoming 83rd Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) to be held in the northern port city on September 8-16. The United States will be the honored country.
