Maris Hotels Joins ‘Clean Up the Med’ Campaign
Maris Hotels has joined the Clean up the Med campaign and recently held a cleanup operation on the beaches located in front of the group’s three hotels on Crete and Santorini.
The cleanup operation took place with the voluntary participation of 70 employees, as well as guests of Maris Hotels.
An initiative of the Legambiente environmental organization, the awareness campaign Clean Up the Med involves more than 1,500 locations in 21 Mediterranean countries, aiming to draw attention on the pollution of the Mediterranean Sea and motivate communities to work together to change the situation.
The actions of Clean Up the Med are also considered as a major award criterion for the Blue Flag program.
As part of the campaign, the volunteers of the Creta Maris Beach Resort cleaned the area from the Kastri/Creta Maris beach until the archaeological site of Kastri.
Furthermore, the volunteers of the Tui Magic Life Candia Maris cleaned the beach of Ammoudara in collaboration with the Municipality of Malevizi and other hotels of the area, collecting a total of 50 bags of litter.
Both Kastri and Ammoudara beaches have been awarded with the Blue Flag this year.
In addition, the volunteers of Santo Maris Oia Luxury Suites & Spa cleaned the Baxedes beach on the island of Santorini.
“The initiative is part of the group’s vision to offer authentic hospitality and proves its environmental consciousness,” Maris Hotels said in an announcement.
“The group’s multi-sided Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability program aims to encourage employees and guests to participate in such activities, in order to maintain the purity and beauty of the Mediterranean coast and its marine wealth.”
Maris Hotels belongs to the Metaxas Group of Companies, which is currently active with three hotels on Crete and Santorini.
