Trivago: South Aegean Islands Top Summer Choices for Foreign Holidaymakers

South Aegean destinations, particularly Mykonos and Santorini, top the preferences of foreign holidaymakers this summer, while the Greeks opt for the Sporades islands and Crete, according to online hotel search engine trivago.

More specifically, trivago’s survey reveals that foreign travelers will spend 7,6 days on average in Greece, which is down by 3 percent compared to last year. The chora of Mykonos tops their preferences with an average room rate at 346 euros, followed by Athens (128 euros) and Fira on Santorini (263 euros). The top 10 also includes the towns of Rhodes and Faliraki; Oia, Kamari, Imerovigli and Perissa on Santorini.

The Italians top the list of foreigners that plan to visit the country, while the Britons come second and the Germans third. Trivago’s top 10 list also includes travelers from Romania, France, Australia, Serbia, Sweden, Hungary and the US.

Photo Source: trivago N.V.Meanwhile, the survey reveals that Greek travelers will spend 5,5 nights on average for summer vacations –  as last year – while their preferred average room rate is at 137 euros, which is up by 11 percent compared to 2017.

The chora of Skiathos in the Sporades group (average room rate at 120 euros), the coastal town of Parga in Epirus (135 euros) and Chania on Crete (97 euros) are their top choices for this summer season.

Trivago’s top 10 list also includes the islands of Skopelos (chora), Naxos (chora) and Milos (Adamas); the coastal town of Agia Marina in Attica; Pefkochori in Central Macedonia; Paros (Naousa) and Tinos (chora) in the Cyclades.

Trivago’s survey is based on the search results of its users between June 1, 2017, and April 26, 2018, for planned trips between June 1 and August 31, 2018.
