The event will take place on Sunday, May 6, at the Pedion tou Areos park and is organized by the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) in collaboration with the Region of Attica.
According to the organizers, the 1st “OPA” Run aims to promote the Pedion tou Areos Park as a pleasant and hospitable park in Athens, ideal for the strolls of Athenians, visitors and families.
The 1st “OPA” Run will include a 2 km walk and a 5 km race, which will start at 9:30 and 10:30 respectively from the equestrian statue of king Constantine, located in front of the main entrance of the park (Alexandras Avenue).
Operating since 1976, the Radisson Blu Park Hotel is located right across the park’s central square, with many of its rooms facing its vast green spaces. “As a grand sponsor the hotel is supporting the effort to revive the area, which is one of the city’s largest green spaces, as well as promote sports,” the hotels’ management said in an announcement.
“We aim for the event to attract the interest of the largest possible number of members of the academic community, students and citizens and mark the beginning of a series of cultural and sports events to take place in the park.”
The race will be followed by a concert with the participation of the City of Athens Philarmonic Orchestra and a number of renowned music bands.
