Greece will be the host destination of the annual conference of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) in 2020, following a bid submitted by the country’s association of prosecutors and supported by the Greek Tourism Ministry.

“It is a great success for the annual IAP conference to be organized in Greece for the first time,” an announcment by the tourism ministry said on Thursday.

Promoting Greece as a destination for conference and MICE (Meetings, Incentive, Conventions and Exhibitions) tourism is among the main priorities of the tourism ministry.

According to data of the International Congress and Convention Association’s (ICCA), a conference of approximately 500-1,000 delegates can translate to one million euros for the local economy, as delegates tend to spend much more than leisure tourists during their stay in the host destination.

IAP’s annual conferences provide the opportunity for worldwide interactions in a legal context and the only opportunity for prosecutors to meet exclusively with colleagues from all parts of the world to discuss subjects in terms which are most relevant to prosecutors. The conferences draw the attendance of over 544 prosecutors from more than 80 countries.

The announcmeent of Greece as the host destination for the 2020 IAP conference was announced during the 45th meeting of the IAP Executive Committee held recently in Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan.
