Ryanair Celebrates 10 Million Passengers at Athens Airport
Ryanair on Tuesday threw a party in Athens to celebrate carrying 10 million passengers to and from Athens International Airport (AIA). The Irish low-cost airline began operating at AIA in April 2014.
“In just four years, Ryanair has grown to operate 24 Athens routes this winter, including five new routes to Aqaba, Catania, Eindhoven, Marrakech and Palermo, which will deliver 2.9m customers p.a. and support 2,200 on-site jobs at Athens Airport,” Ryanair Sales & Marketing Manager for Eastern Mediterranean Nikolaos Lardis said.
To celebrate Ryanair has launched a 20 percent off seat sale on flights from Greece, which are available to book until Sunday, April 22, for travel until to end of November.
Ryanair grows its international network out of Athens
For the summer 2018 period, the airline will be operating flights to 13 additional international destinations out of AIA versus last summer: Billund in Denmark; Karlsruhe, Memmingen and Frankfurt in Germany; Gdansk, Krakow, Katowice, Lodz Lubinek, Poznan, Rzeszow and Wroclaw in Poland; Lappeenranta in Finand; and Vilnius in Lithuania.
“We are particularly pleased with Ryanair’s successful presence in the rapidly growing Athens’ market. Ryanair’s contribution to this result has been significant, with more than 10 million passengers since the beginning of its flights in Athens in April 2014,” AIA Director of Communications and Marketing Ioanna Papadopoulou said.
“We will continue to support our airline partner, in order to further enhance its successful presence in our market,” she added.
