‘Menalon Trail’ Gets Gold at Greece’s Tourism Awards 2018
The Menalon Social Cooperative Enterprise, behind the creation and promotion of the Menalon Trail hiking path in the Peloponnese, clinched the gold award for “Specialty Travel – Outdoor Tourism” at this year’s Tourism Awards held at the Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Center in Athens.
The Menalon Cooperative was awarded for organizing two outstanding tourism initiatives: the 1st Greek Trails Conference in the Peloponnese village of Vytina last year, and the 3rd European Leading Quality Trails meeting, which garnered extensive international publicity.
The Menalon Cooperative also won bronze in 2016 in the “Tourism Development – Contribution to the National/Local Economy” category for the establishment of the Menalon Trail, which is named after the mountain range in the region and is an eight-path network spanning 75km of Arcadia forests, valleys and rivers.
The footpath network is the first in Greece to receive European certification and be placed among the Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe, offering nature lovers and hikers across the globe a chance to explore the region with the utmost safety and certified guidance.
Launched five years ago, the Menalon Trail (https://menalontrail.eu/lqt-week-2018/) has played a significant role in the sustainable development of the region while involving the local communities and preserving nature.
Organized for the fifth year by Boussias Communications and Hotel & Restaurant magazine, the Tourism Awards 2018 were under the auspices of the Tourism Ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
The Greek Travel Pages was among the communication sponsors of the event.
