Monemvasia Unveils New Tourism Identity
The Municipality of Monemvasia, located in the Laconia Region, recently presented its new tourism development strategy during an event held in Athens and attended by local and regional representatives.
As underlined by the president of Monemvasia’s tourism committee, Katerina Tsafatinou, the municipality is following a strategy that aims to establish the Castle City of Monemvasia as a world-wide attraction, a “must see” site that is necessary to visit at least once.
The new tourism strategy, drawn up by Greek tourism and hotel marketing consultant, Dr. Dimitris Koutoulas, aims for the destination to emerge as a major multi-day holiday destination and not just a weekend getaway choice. The municipality plans to promote the region’s destinations, attractions, activities and travel experiences to travelers visiting Monemvasia’s trademark Castle City.
Through the new strategy, the municipality will also aim to extend the tourism season by developing alternative forms of tourism, such as hiking, climbing, cultural/religious and promoting them mainly to foreign markets.
New identity inspired by stone
“Monemvasia’s new tourism identity has taken into account the modern trends of communication… The preferences of the travel market have changed and a destination’s identity must be adapted to an image more approachable to the Greek and especially the foreign visitor,” Dr. Koutoulas said, while presenting the municipality’s new tourism strategy.
The municipality’s new tourism strategy includes a new logo and new website, designed by Lectus adv. agency, that gives travelers the opportunity to learn all they need to know about Monemvasia, its history, its culture, its tradition, its people and its unique products.
“In order to create Monemvasia’s tourism identity, we studied the unique values and qualities of the municipality and respected its timeless beauty… Our mission is to ‘travel’ these values to visitors and persuade them to visit the destination,” said Sonia Saltsidi, head of Lectus adv., adding that the logo aims to give travelers a “taste” of the destination before their arrival.
Ιnspired by the stone of the destination’s trademark — the Castle City — Monemvasia’s new logo represents the municipality through the monogram M.
“What we had in mind was to connect ‘pieces’ of history, nostalgia, simplicity, hospitality, romance and diversity. We want the stone to welcome the visitor and at the same time take him back in time,” said Markos Dontas, Business Development Manager at Lectus adv.
