Greek Tourism Startups Awarded in ‘1st FU-TOURISM18’ Pitch Competition
Three Greek startups, active in the travel and tourism sector, were honored in the “1st FU-TOURISM18: Tomorrow’s Tech Today!” pitch competition, which took place during the 2nd Hotel Tech conference held recently in Athens.
The winners of the competition were Syncbnb, a calendar synchronization tool for vacation rental home owners that want to list their property on multiple channels; Workathlon, which offers solutions for recruitment management and the proper personnel allocation for hotels and resorts and Tekmon Geomatics, which designs and develops web, mobile, wearable and new tech projects.
During the competition, the finalists had seven minutes to describe their idea, product or service and convince the seven-member jury of their company’s viability and development prospects.
The competition was attended by tourism executives, representatives of funds and venture capitals and officials from the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO). Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development Giorgos Tziallas represented the Greek Tourism Ministry and underlined the importance of innovation for the development of a successful national tourism policy. “The ministry’s door is always open to the young people and there are many ways to collaborate,” he said.
Hellenic Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ESYNEAPP) president Orestis Matsoukas participated in the jury and provided the contestants with useful advice. He also called on startups to take part in the “Get in the Ring 2018” international competition, which will be held by ESYNEAPP in March in Athens.
Furthermore, the association’s vice president Michalis Kokkinos said that “Greece is an international brand name in tourism making it more likely for Greek startups to draw the attention of foreign investors”.
The 1st FU-TOURISM18 competition was organized by Smartpress under the auspices of ESYNEAPP.
The 2nd Hotel Tech conference took place on February 8, in Athens. It focused on smart hotels and highlighted the necessity for hospitality enterprises to adopt modern technology trends.
The Greek Travel Pages (GTP) was a communications sponsor of the 2nd Hotel Tech conference.
