No Ferries in Greece on Friday Due to Strike
Ferries in Greece will remain docked on Friday, January 12, due to a 24-hour strike called by the Pan-Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO).
The Greek seamen are protesting against a number of issues including uninsured labor, the increase of unemployment and the reduction of pensions.
“The government does not intent to solve our problems… Despite its constant ‘empty’ promises, the problems are growing as a result of the bailout requirements, regulations and cuts of the third memorandum,” PNO said in an announcement. The Federation’s demands also concern the operation of the seamen’s social security fund – NAT.
PNO warns of further strike action in case its demands are not met.
Travelers that have booked ferry tickets are advised to check with their travel agents or contact local port authorities for further information.
