Strada Marina on Zakynthos Honored with ‘Green Key’ Environmental Award

The four-star Strada Marina Hotel on Zakynthos was recently honored with the “Green Key” international environmental award, a voluntary eco-label for hospitality facilities that promotes sustainable tourism.

A responsibility initiative of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and coordinated in Greece by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, the Green Key is awarded to tourism enterprises that fulfil a list of environmental requirements. Obtaining the Green Key demonstrates the enterprises’ efforts to develop an environment friendly, sustainable and responsible business.

The environmental policy of Strada Marina aims includes improvement actions in the fields of energy, water, waste management, nutrition, awareness / information / training of staff and customers as well as issues related to its operation.

For 2018, the hotel’s environmental efforts will include the reduction of energy and water consumption per overnight stay and the establishment of a special waste separation site in accordance with the Municipality’s waste management capacities. The hotel also plans to increase the environmentally friendly products used by the company and will also encourage the participation of employees and customers in at least two voluntary actions per year.

The Strada Marina will also promote sustainable dining and will increase the use of Greek local products, include a dish in the hotel’s daily menu for vegetarians and/or organic dishes, promote sales points of Greek traditional and organic products inside and outside the hotel, partner with NGOs to offer food portions to vulnerable groups and include traditional Greek dishes on its menu. “We will continue to act responsibly in environmental and social terms, for sustainable growth and to always give its customers a high quality service,” said Eleni Skitzi, the hotel’s manager.

The hotel in April completed renovation works and features 112 revamped and fully equipped guest rooms with laminated floors, ranging from Classic to Deluxe suites, and a renovated roof garden that includes a swimming pool.

The Strada Marina is conveniently located within 100 meters from the port and the center of Zakynthos and is in very close distance to the beach.
