Costa Navarino Hosts ‘Cultural Weekend’ on Fashion and Tradition

Costa Navarino, located in Messinia in the Peloponnese on October 20-22, 2017, will host a “Cultural Weekend” dedicated to fashion and tradition, in collaboration with the Benaki Museum and the Athens International Airport (AIA).

Titled, “Under the spell of Greek costume”, the event will include interactive discussions, exclusive presentations, interesting screenings and performances. Throughout the weekend, guests will have the opportunity to meet designers and artists in person and learn more on their work.

Costa Navarino will also host an exclusive panel discussion under the theme, “How is tradition and craft safeguarded in fashion in the modern era?”,  which will be moderated by fashion journalist, author and lecturer Tamsin Blanchard and joined by fashion designers Sophia Kokosalaki, Zeus+Dione, as well as photographer Margarita Myrogianni among other speakers.

The designers and artists joining the weekend are among those participating in the exhibition Under the spell of Greek costume: Contemporary creations animate the Benaki Museum collections”, which is currently on display at Costa Navarino until November 18 and at the Athens International Airport until December 31. The group exhibition brings together 15 world-renowned fashion designers and talented artists – including Jean-Paul Gaultier – who embrace Greece through their work.

Other highlights of the “Cultural Weekend” include a presentation of rare Greek traditional costumes; the screening of “Interlude”, a performance by Greek artist Blind Adam and a philosophy walk in the idyllic Messinian countryside under the theme, “Aesthetics in ancient Greece”.

Furthermore, original creations by contemporary Greek and international artists will be on display and can be discovered during a historical art tour.

Special accommodation packages are available for the “Cultural Weekend” experience at Costa Navarino. To view the full program of the events press here.
